Beauty Balls with Tremella Mushroom for Flawless Skin

It’s a well-known fact that beautiful, glowing skin, first and foremost, comes from having both a healthy body and diet. Enter Tremella mushroom – resembling something of a beautiful baby jellyfish, or maybe a white natural sponge, it carries a super cute, ethereal vibe about it. Oh, and it sports some pretty cute nicknames such as ‘white tree jellyfish’ and ‘snow fungus’. But, don’t let its cute appearance fool you – tremella comes packed with dietary fibre, protein, minerals, antioxidants, vitamin D, and it’s even a natural source of collagen. It’s no wonder it is dubbed as the ‘beauty mushroom’. So, knowing all of this I just couldn’t resist making some beauty balls with Hybrid Herbs’ tremella mushroom powder for some super flawless skin.

Although beauty products can show amazing results, these are often short-lived and tend to mask any issues that your body is trying to show you. It’s why herbal remedies have been used by Chinese and Japanese herbalists for centuries, and Tremella mushroom is a firm favourite. It is believed to be a powerful tonic for the immune system, nourishing the internal organs such as the lungs, kidneys, heart, brain, and stomach.

Tremella makes an excellent natural alternative to hyaluronic acid as it can hold up to 500 times its weight in water and encourages the natural production of collagen. These intensive hydration properties can help to stave off dehydration and improve your health too. If you’re over 30, like me (sigh), then your body is already slowing its production of hyaluronic acid and collagen. Adding Tremella to your daily diet will aid in combatting this, and if you’re under 30 it will work as a much better strategy than supplementing when you’re older.

These Beauty Balls with Tremella Mushroom help fight acne and boost the body’s production of collagen and hyaluronic acid leaving you with flawless skin.

My second powerful beauty-boosting ingredient is Hybrid Herbs’ Pitaya Powder, a.k.a. Dragon Fruit. Pitaya is very nutrient-dense – high in antioxidants, dietary fibre, vitamins C, B1, and B3, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, and Omega-3 fatty acids. It’s thought to fight the signs of ageing, treat acne, and promote healthy skin. Not too shabby! My favourite part though? It is the most vibrant shade of magenta colour and has a beautifully delicate hint of pear and melon.

I know almonds are usually the first port of call when it comes to nuts to feed our skin but cashews can actually help to fight off acne. They’re also nice and sweet tasting so I personally love them in bliss balls. Cashews are high in selenium leaving skin hydrated and inflammation free whilst high levels of zinc help to promote immune function for healing and cell growth. This renews and replenishes any infected or damaged acne zones.

These little balls of joy taste amazing, they’re sweet with a hint of juicy fruit flavour. They’re pretty much glorified Nakd bars rolled into balls.  If you’re wondering what Tremella tastes like – don’t worry it’s so mild you won’t even notice it. In fact, out of all of the medicinal mushrooms, it is the least offensive tasting one I’ve tried, and I’ve tried them all! Anyway, enough of my babbling, if you wanna look like a model make yourself a batch of my Beauty Balls with Tremella Mushroom and you’ll be flawless in no time babe.

Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 10
Ingredients
  • 175g Medjool or Deglet Noor dates (weight after pitting)
  • 60g cashews
  • 40g raisins
  • 20g Pitaya powder
  • 12-15g Tremella mushroom powder
  • 5 drops Raspberry Medicine Flower Extract (optional)
Optional decoration:

  • Additional Pitaya powder
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in the bowl of your food processor. Pulse a few times before processing until the dough comes together and is fairly smooth. You will see a few small specs of cashew running through your dough but nothing too chunky.
  2. Portion into 30g balls and if you'd like, roll in Pitaya powder to decorate. Store in an airtight container, lined with greaseproof paper, in the fridge or a cool dark place. Consume within 2 weeks of making.
Notes
If you decide to roll your beauty balls in pitaya powder make sure you do this just before you serve them as the excess oils will absorb the powder and they won't look as nice.

Can't get Medicine Flower Extract? Don't worry try adding in a little vanilla or orange extract for a better depth of flavour. If you can get your hands on some freeze-dried raspberry powder then throw in a tablespoon of that too!
