I have to admit I have never really been much of a hipster (more a hippie) and sometimes I feel like everyone kind of forgets what healthy is really all about. I love Instagram it’s great, but it is also a breeding ground for bad habits – you’ll find gorgeously vibrant smoothie bowls, topped with heaps of fresh or dried fruit, superfoods, and yes even chocolate. Healthy isn’t about necking a load of sugary fruit – it’s about eating a variety of foods. If you’re gonna make a ‘nicecream’ or a smoothie bowl then always make sure you use the less sugary fruit, and always ALWAYS add in a decent fat and protein source for a more complete bowl of nutrition.
An antioxidant rich probiotic smoothie bowl to boost your gut health and immune system. It’s also packed full of healthy fats and protein for a more complete nutritional profile, leaving you feeling fit and full!
Now I decided to take it one step further by loading my smoothie bowl full of probiotics and prebiotics. More specifically PurePharma’s Synbiotics SB3 – but why?
Well, I lead a pretty hectic lifestyle and I’m a fan of HIIT workouts, sadly this kind of exercise can have a negative impact upon healthy gut bacteria so I kindly asked PurePharma for a box to try out. Each SB3 stick contains 13 billion live probiotic bacteria – probiotics are the ‘good’ bacteria that act as the body’s defense – they support the immune system by fighting the ‘bad’ bacteria and also help to aid digestion too. SB3 contains 3 different types of indigestible prebiotic fibre which act as a food source for the ‘good’ probiotic bacteria, helping them to grow and thrive within the gut. To top it all off PurePharma have added in a rather generous 200mg of vitamin C which helps to protect cells from oxidative stress, again further supporting the immune system.
If you’re an avid HIIT workout fanatic or CrossFitter then I highly recommend SB3. You’ll also be pleased to know that they are sugar, additive, and gluten-free, plus they are suitable for nut allergy sufferers and vegans.
But onto my gorgeous recipe – I’ve popped in some acai berry powder for a boost in antioxidants and vitamin A, which again helps to boost the immune system, supports eye and bone health, and also makes your skin and hair super pretty. There’s plenty of fat and protein from the almond butter, and a great energy boost from the MCT oil. But the best thing about this is that it tastes freaking amazing! Seriously.

- 2 tbsp acai berry powder
- 2 tbsp almond butter
