Last week the amazing folk at Raised Spirit sent me out some of their CBD range to try. Not only does Raised Spirit stock the regular CBD oil tinctures you’re probably all familiar with, but they also sell a range of CBD infused coconut oils including a sweetened cacao version that tastes utterly divine! I’m a huge CBD coffee fan but now we are in full summer swing I feel like a CBD Frappuccino binge is only right, as I’m not big on the mocha I used Raised Spirit’s Organic CBD Coconut Oil GOLD (RRP £34.99). This oil is fab to use in hot drinks and smoothies but I love the fact that you can also use this oil topically as I have been using expensive tinctures in the past and a little goes a long way. It’s brilliant to use for facial massage and gua sha which helps to relax the muscles and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
This super creamy CBD Frappuccino is not only healthy and takes minutes to make, it also delivers a 24mg punch of Raised Spirit’s CBD for a clean energy boost.
DISCLAIMER: Please note, I was sent some wonderful goodies from Raised Spirit, and paid real money, to create a delicious recipe for you all. All opinions are my own and 100% honest. For more info scroll to the bottom of this post.
You don’t need any fancy ingredients to make this amazing frappuccino – other than CBD oil of course – it’s simply a matter of blending together milk (this can be plant-based if dairy-free or vegan), ice, a strong brew of coffee, and your favourite sweetener of choice if you wish. I’m pretty big on maple syrup but coconut sugar or liquid stevia goes really well too. When brewing the coffee I just use twice the amount of coffee I normally would then set to one side to cool, you can add it hot but the result won’t be half as refreshing. You can, however, freeze the coffee into ice cube trays and then throw it in the blender along with the rest of the ingredients. If you’re feeling adventurous then why not try throwing in a little dash of almond, orange, or vanilla extract and top the frapp off with some squirty whipped cream. If you’re dairy-free you can easily whip up the fat from a can of chilled coconut milk to make your very own coconut cream. If you’re more of a Mocha Frappuccino person then simply whisk in 1/2-1 tbsp of raw cacao powder to your shot of coffee whilst still hot.
As I mentioned above, I decided to use Raised Spirit’s regular CBD infused coconut oil which contains 110ml of gorgeously green CBD infused coconut oil. There’s a whopping 24mg CBD per teaspoon which has been derived from organic flowers (not the seeds or stalks). This is because the flowers contain all of the amazing cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes that result in increased effectiveness of the supplement altogether, known as the entourage effect. When all of these elements are included in the supplement we also call it a full-spectrum CBD supplement. As the stalks contain little to no CBD at all they are usually used in low-quality cheap brands that are relatively ineffective when used and the seeds contain zero CBD and are only useful for their fatty acids. The oil extracted from the seeds is typically labelled as hemp oil and is used for things like dressing your salad but also can be applied topically. As CBD is a fat-soluble compound it requires fat rather than water to break down and become more bioavailable to our body. Coconut oil is by far the best fat to use in conjunction with CBD as it contains more saturated fats than hemp seed oil and will, therefore, break down and transport more CBD molecules thus delivering more CBD to our cells for absorption meaning you’ll be getting the most out of your money.
Just a little warning – before you go necking Raised Spirit’s CBD infused coconut oil straight just be aware that it honestly tastes and smells very strongly of weed. So, prepare yourself for this if you decide to sample it plain or slather it over your face before heading out to work. Don’t worry though, when used in this recipe all it does is lend a slightly nutty yet green flavour which isn’t strong or cloying whatsoever. In fact, if you’re on a very low to moderate dose (6-12mg) it’s highly unlikely that you’ll taste it at all. Anyway enough of my babbling – if you love CBD and coffee then you’re gonna love this creamy, cold, smooth bevvy so check out the recipe below!
