Wooooooooooo… that’s my best attempt at typing a ghosty noise. But, in case you didn’t know – it’s Halloween soon bitchez! I cannot wait. Of course, I’m that excited that I had to come up with a delicious treat for us hard-working adult folk. Behold my Red Velvet CBD Hot Chocolate. Yes, it’s packed with weird and wonderful ingredients, that just so happen to be healthy, but it’s god damn yummy.

Give beetroot a chance I say. If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I am a little bit beetroot obsessed (for an amazing Beetroot Pie recipe click here) but I’m also CBD obsessed. So, I couldn’t think of anything better than combining the two together to create something weird, wonderful, and fun. It’s fitting all year round but looks super spooky when served in a glass skull carafe.
This Red Velvet CBD Hot Chocolate is rich in flavour – with real beetroot, vanilla, and cacao. It’s sweet and sour just like a slice of the real thing.
If you’re wondering how this tastes, I’d say a lot like vanilla and beetroot with a hint of chocolate. Most recipes I’ve seen used quite a lot of cocoa powder in them. But, in true solidarity to the original cake, I’ve kept the cacao to a minimum and created my own buttermilk to mimic the sour element of red velvet cake, along with a pinch of baking powder.
There’s a slightly grassy flavour lent by the CBD oil, however, I did find that when using Green Stem’s Black Cherry flavour CBD tincture that it was almost unnoticeable. And because it’s black cherry flavoured it kind of makes you think of cake. Mmmm cake…
I’m so desperate for someone to release a vanilla flavoured CBD oil for me to play with because I think it would work so well in edibles.
