So quite a while back now, as is always the case with me, I was sent this beautiful vivimoss™ stay fresh vest to review. I have to admit that the prospect of reviewing sports gear is pretty much as exciting as smashing a giant piñata open and gorging on all the colourful, sweet candy. Okay I’m lying – it’s probably even more exciting than that.
Before you go and get all cheeky, take a glance, and run away – look out for the 20% off discount code contained in the review below – just a little reward for you all being so awesome!
So let’s get started…
How Did vivimoss™ Get Started?
vivimoss™ was founded in the summer of 2014 by Lauren Moss, now based in Edinburgh (but a Yorkshire lass at heart) she has a fondness for fitness and of course the great outdoors. It wasn’t until Lauren embarked upon her CrossFit adventures that she felt inspired to leave a successful career in the financial services sector and to launch her gorgeously functional yet stylish vivimoss™ sports range. But Lauren didn’t stop there she wanted to embed key ethical and green credentials into the brand and so she operates under strict green business policies, visiting her manufacturers and ensuring that everything is compliant.
The brand name itself ties links to the Spanish word ‘vivmos’ which literally translates as ‘a toast to life’ which encapsulates the brand’s philosophy perfectly. It’s all about rejoicing your health, or fitness in this case, and the brand boasts a product range of simplicity without skimping on the quality.
The vivimoss™ Breast Cancer Awareness Month Campaign
Another reason why I am absolutely loving vivimoss™ is for its upstanding generosity. All throughout October they have been donating 20% to Breast Cancer Awareness Month from the sale of their ladies hot pink Freedom Shorts and Stay Fresh Vest in order to raise awareness of the disease and the issues surrounding research.
Lauren herself stated that “It’s a pleasure to be able to do something to make a difference through our brand and to support such a great cause. And of course it’s fabulous to be able to do it with our hot pink tees and shorts, what better way given that October will be turning PINK again this year! Keeping fit and healthy is at the heart of what we do but it is important to always support those causes which can change people’s lives so much.”
Her brand ambassadors Kristie Edwards (sprinter), Joe Hobson (decathlete), and Conor Kidner (elite rugby player) have all been supporting the vivimoss™ breast cancer awareness campaign throughout the month too.
It’s so refreshing to see a brand be so selfless and to give away such a huge chunk of their profits – and that’s also why I love new brands like vivimoss™.
So this is my favourite part where I get down to the nitty gritty of things!
- Racerback – This allows you to have a full range of motion without feeling restricted by any pesky fabric lying across your shoulders.
- Longer Length – The vest is longer in length than most in order to prevent it from riding up your back or stomach during a strenuous workout.
- Stretch – Made from 91% nylon, 9% spandex fabric the vest will stretch with you in any which way you mov. It is also super light and soft to the touch too.
- Breathability and Wicking – The material is super breathable and the wicking works so effectively at drawing the moisture away from your skin that you feel really fresh – even when you’re sweating buckets.
- Pink and Purple
- Purple and Pink
Okay so I have something to admit, I’m not at all a girly girl in the slightest – in fact I tend to just dress like a ninja for most workouts – i.e. all black. But the vest’s sort of hot pink colour grew on me day by day. And when you know that part of your sale will be going to a good cause the colour doesn’t even matter anymore – just what it represents.
The vest has a nice flattering tapered purple stripe down each side of the vest, widening at the bottom, which gives a super slimming effect and also gives the vest an overall feel of having a modern edge to it.
This fits true to size, and the stretch gives room for any areas of your body that might be bigger than the rest – I have a huge set of shoulders and a large set of hips but a small waist. As you can see in the photo above this hugs my waist perfectly. The longer length definitely helps, being a little bit of a fatty at the hips it did ruck up a little but not in that embarrassing sort of belly bulging way (you all know what I mean).
One of my pet peeves with clothing is labels… bloody labels! They always end up scratching or itching the nape of my neck but vivimoss™ uses a beautiful printed label that doesn’t fade after washing either.
Out of my whole wardrobe of sportswear this vest fits in the most flattering way and even makes me feel a little sexy too – bonus!
At £25.00 plus £4.oo for the basic UK shipping fee (£6.00 in Europe, £8.00 worldwide) it lines up with being in the same price range as the bigger mainstream sports brands such as Nike and Puma. I don’t think that this is too pricey given the style, quality, and of course the ethics of the business and I would have been more than happy to pay for this myself.
Where to Buy
You can buy direct from the vivimoss site here otherwise you might find them in a few independent stockists within the UK but I couldn’t find any details of this on their website. Don’t forget to use the discount code ‘vivi20‘ at the checkout for 20% off!
I think that it is safe to say I am absolutely in love with this vest – it’s just so comfortable, it moves with my body, it doesn’t expose my post baby belly, and it can keep up with the copious amount of sweat that I excrete with every intense workout. The price is slightly high but it more than makes up for it in durability, quality, and comfort and I totally think that it is more than great value for money. The only thing that I didn’t like was the colour, because I’m not a pink lovin’ kinda girl – I’m a hardcore ninja. That being said it isn’t a pastel type pink, it’s a hot pink and I do love things pretty funky every now and then. Like I said earlier, just knowing that money will be donated to such a good cause, what the colour of the vest represents makes me want to wear it even more.
It’s also a pretty easy piece of clothing to maintain – just wash at 40 degrees or lower and air dry – because of the fabric it dries out pretty fast. You can also pop it in the tumble dryer at its lowest heat setting if you wish but this can effect the overall durability of the vest.
The cute little logo tab at the bottom left of the vest is so awesome too – I love the logo as it reminds me of something out of an old Kubrick movie, and anything even remotely sci-fi is, well… awesome. The range isn’t just for women – there’s also a pretty good men’s section too so if you have a significant other in need of some fresh new gear you know where to go!
My only real complaint is that the weather is so miserable at the moment that I can’t show off my awesome guns and back muscles… I mean my gorgeous vivimoss™ vest. But I have got my eyes on their ‘To and From Top‘ which I could layer over the top of my stay fresh vest. And that looks even comfier!
Overall this brand is very promising, with high performance sportswear and great ethics I can see greater feats ahead for vivimoss™.
